The best vacations never leave you wondering if you’ll run out of toilet paper, whether there’s enough coffee for tomorrow morning, or if you should wash towels halfway through your stay because there aren’t enough.
Luxury isn’t always about spending more.
Often, it’s about removing scarcity.
Today I intentionally stock my vacation rental with an abundance mindset—more towels than guests will need, extra blankets, plenty of coffee, fully stocked kitchen essentials, thoughtful welcome gifts, and all the little comforts that help people settle in immediately.
The result?
Guests relax faster, leave better reviews, recommend the home to friends, and come back again.

What Is an Abundance Mindset?
An abundance mindset is the belief that thoughtful generosity creates extraordinary experiences. While it may require a small investment upfront, it almost always pays dividends through happier guests, glowing reviews, repeat bookings, and a stronger reputation.
What many hosts don’t realize is that from the moment guests walk through your front door, they’re making dozens of tiny, often subconscious judgments about their stay.
They may be asking themselves:
- “Do we have enough towels?”
- “Should we save the coffee for tomorrow morning?”
- “Are we actually supposed to use these?”
- “I hope we don’t run out of toilet paper.”
These seemingly insignificant thoughts quietly influence how your guests feel. When people begin rationing supplies or worrying about whether they’ll have enough, they can’t fully relax.
Your role as a host is to remove those worries before they ever arise.
The best vacation rentals create an environment where guests can let go of everyday concerns and simply settle into their vacation. They shouldn’t have to think about whether there’s enough coffee, another roll of paper towels, or an extra blanket if the evening turns chilly.
Vacation should feel effortless. An abundance mindset helps make that possible.
Over the years, I’ve tested a lot of products while hosting my own vacation rental. Some have been worth every penny, while others didn’t live up to the hype. The Welcome Basket
This was one of the areas that took the most trial and error to perfect.
When we first started hosting, we’d stop by Trader Joe’s before every guest arrival to pick up a bottle of sparkling wine along with a few snacks. It felt like a thoughtful way to welcome people into our home.
But after hosting hundreds of guests, I noticed something surprising—the wine was rarely touched.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that while some guests would appreciate it, others might not drink alcohol for personal, religious, or health reasons. I also wanted to be mindful of guests in recovery. Hospitality should make every guest feel comfortable, and I never wanted a welcome gift to unintentionally make someone feel excluded.
My husband and I also included packets of authentic Italian instant espresso—one of my personal favorites—but much like the wine, it often went untouched.
That experience taught me an important lesson: the best welcome gifts aren’t necessarily the most elaborate—they’re the most universally appreciated.
Today, we keep our welcome basket simple, practical, and enjoyable for almost everyone. We include microwave popcorn for movie night, granola bars for busy mornings, hot cocoa, apple cider packets, and a selection of teas. These are the kinds of treats guests actually enjoy and frequently mention in their reviews.

And as for the coffee, we have found that most guests have an personal preference for their favorite coffee brands but we do leave a large container of high quality coffee in the freezer for guests who request it.

Let’s be honest—there’s nothing glamorous about stocking a bathroom.
But there’s also nothing worse than arriving at your vacation rental after a long day of travel only to discover you’re down to your last roll of toilet paper, you’ve forgotten your shampoo, or there isn’t a hair dryer anywhere in the house.
These aren’t luxury items—they’re the little details that quietly shape a guest’s experience.
When we first started our vacation rental, we relied on our cleaning company to stock the bathrooms. They left a few rolls of toilet paper, a small hotel-style bar of soap, and we refilled the shampoo and conditioner as needed.
Over time, however, we noticed those little touches slowly disappeared. The generous supply of toilet paper became just one or two rolls, and that tiny bar of soap wasn’t enough for guests staying several nights.
That’s when we realized abundance isn’t something you can assume—it has to be intentional.
As we gained more hosting experience and eventually hired a new housekeeping team, we made a commitment to creating a bathroom that felt more like a boutique hotel than a basic rental.
Today, every bathroom includes luxury wall-mounted dispensers filled with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, at least five rolls of toilet paper, generously filled hand soap, black makeup towels to help protect our other linens, and a hair dryer with styling attachments in every bathroom.
These aren’t extravagant additions, but together they communicate something important to your guests: We’ve thought of you.
The goal is for your guests to never wonder if they’ll have enough. They shouldn’t have to send you a message asking for another roll of toilet paper or search every cabinet looking for a hair dryer. They should simply enjoy their stay.

The Laundry Room
Last, but certainly not least, is the laundry room. It may not be the most exciting space in your vacation rental, but it’s one of the easiest places to exceed your guests’ expectations.
I’ve stayed in vacation rentals that provided only one or two laundry pods for an entire week. While that may seem sufficient, it often leaves guests wondering if they should save them for an emergency or avoid doing laundry altogether.
A well-stocked laundry room gives your guests options. Maybe they spilled coffee on a favorite shirt, the kids came back from the beach covered in sand, or they’d simply like to head home with a suitcase full of clean clothes instead of dirty laundry. Having plenty of detergent allows them to take care of those little inconveniences without having to make an unexpected trip to the store.
I’ve also found that when guests have easy access to laundry supplies, they’re much more likely to pre-treat an accidental stain on towels or linens or even start a load of laundry before checking out. While I never expect my guests to do laundry, I certainly appreciate it when they choose to.
Like every other area of your home, the laundry room should reflect an abundance mindset. A generous supply of laundry detergent, stain remover, dryer sheets, and a few thoughtful extras communicates that you’ve anticipated your guests’ needs before they even arise.
